My Bio
I am a licensed and board-certified psychologist with more than 30 years of experience in clinical practice, business leadership, and scholarship. I founded and serve as managing partner of Southeast Psych Nashville, where my clinical work is now dedicated almost entirely to young adults, including athletes and performing artists. I also hold a faculty appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor in Vanderbilt University's Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program.
I am the author or co-author of eleven books published by Routledge, Guilford Press, and other leading academic presses. My forthcoming book, Working with Artists and Athletes (2027, Routledge) is believed to be the first of its kind in integrating wellness and performance for performing professionals. In addition to being licensed in Tennessee and North Carolina, I am approved by PsyPact to provide teletherapy in over 40 states. See if your state is covered here.
I am also a frequent and popular speaker, with more than 800 presentations delivered at local, state, and national conferences. My media background runs deep with six years on-air in radio broadcasting, service as host of an award-winning podcast, and work as executive producer on two feature-length documentaries. I founded and co-direct the Artists & Athletes program at Southeast Psych Nashville, helping artists, athletes, and other top performers protect their mental health and flourish in their profession.
I’ve been married to Ellen for over 35 years and we have 4 adult children. After almost 25 years in Charlotte, our home base is now Nashville.
